Re: Origin of the "Alcor" name?

Re: What do you guys people who are not friends/family?

Almost no one asks. On the few occasions when someone has, I tell them about cryonics. The reaction is invariably one of interest.

Apparently, people who have hangups about cryonics never ask :-)

Alas, Hameroff is a known flake. I reviewed Ultimate Computing: Biomolecular Consciousness and NanoTechnology many years ago, see http://www.foresight.org/Updates/Update ... chor566374.

Re: Non nobis solum nati sumus

Committing suicide is selfish, because it hurts everyone who loves you. So for Bill Gates to say "no" to cryonics is for him to tell his wife and children and grandchildren to weep bitterly at his death, to know not only that he is gone, but that he wanted them to live with the pain of knowing that ...

To others reading: when the time comes to use this argument, use it.

Jim Halperin used it on his father. It worked. I don't think he regrets it.

Re: 90-day notice of Underfunding Plan implementation

Some reduction in dues paid for with an increase in cryopreservation minimums looks interesting.

I'd like to put in a plug for Signing Up your Relatives ( http://www.alcor.org/magazine/2011/01/14/signing-up-your-relatives/ ). This article includes the usual methods, the above-board rational arguments, but it also includes an argument based on pure emotion. After you've gotten your relatives and...

Re: When will we revive the first cryopreserved patient?

A previous post didn't seem to make it. The following link goes directly to the article: http://chronicle.com/article/The-Strange-Neuroscience-of/132819/ "This isn't cryonics, where maybe you have a .001 percent chance of surviving. We've got a good scientific case for brain preservation and mind up...
