Sub Nanometer Transistors

Post by johnkclark » Fri Mar 11, 2022 8:49 am

Researchers in Wednesday's issue of the journal Nature report they have made transistors with a gate length of just one carbon atom, 0.34 nanometers, the smallest ever reported. The semiconductor material is not silicon but is molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), it's easier to make than other super small transistors and the transistor has a current on/off leak ratio of 10,200. They suggest several ways they think their new transistors can be improved and conclude with "This work can promote Moore’s law of the scaling down of transistors for next-generation electronics".
